Money Woman, Nimi Akinkugbe Appointed As Nigeria’s Ambassador To Greece.

 

Accomplished banker and finance expert, Opunimi Akinkugbe (née Ajumogobia), was recently confirmed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece. 

Akinkugbe, 60, is the founder of ‘Money Matters with Nimi’, and the CEO of Bestman Games Ltd. 

Prior to her appointment as Ambassador, Akinkugbe has enjoyed a successful career in the banking sector, working across top management positions before transitioning to the business space. To her credit, she was General Manager and Head, Private Banking at Stanbic IBTC Plc from 1989 to 2010 before joining Barclay’s Bank as Regional Director (West Africa) for the Wealth and Investment Management Division from 2010 to 2012.

Akinkugbe is a personal finance and wealth management expert who transitioned from the corporate world to pursue her goals as an entrepreneur. She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of BestMan Games Limited, the African distributor of customized editions of Monopoly, Hasbro’s world-famous game. The City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly, launched in 2012 was the first African city edition of the game.

On a mission to promote financial literacy in Nigeria and Africa at large, Akinkugbe harnesses financial literacy and inclusion as tools for youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and economic development. On this note, she offers interesting and practical insights to issues bothering around financial management and wealth management through Money Matters with Nimi, speaking engagements, seminars, webinars, television and radio programmes, social media, articles on prominent publications, the Monopoly Board Game and her book, A-Z of Personal Finance.

In this light, Akinkugbe regularly contributes to several leading publications such as The Punch Newspaper, Business Day, Forbes Africa and Genevieve Magazine. Her articles are also featured on websites and blogs including Lagos Mums, and Eden Lifestyle. So far, Akinkugbe has charged people to take responsibility for their financial life through these platforms.

Akinkugbe was born in 1960 in Port Hartcourt and hails from Akuku-Toru, Rivers State. She lived in Lagos State until when at the age of seven, she moved to East Africa, where her late father, Mr. F.I Ajumogobi was UNESCO Chief of Mission.

She grew up in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, and attended International School of Tanganyika, and later Limuru Girls School, Limuru, Kenya and finally returned to Nigeria for her O’Levels at International School, Ibadan.

Akinkugbe obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1983, and an Executive Master of Business Administration from IESE Business School. She has an interest in music which she formalized by obtaining a Piano Teaching Diploma (ARCM) from The Royal College of Music, London.

An Independent Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Limited, Akinkugbe also sits on the board of Nigeria Exchange Group Plc. She is also a member of the Artistes Committee of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) and the Institute of Directors (IoD).

Her marriage to Yinka Akinkugbe, a prominent businessman, is blessed with three children.

  FG Suspends Adeboye’s Helicopter From Flying. The Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has grounded a private chopper belonging to Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God at the Lagos Airport.
